Hyde Park¡¯s Winter Wonderland Sound Monitoring

As communities come together to enjoy the annual Winter Wonderland in London¡¯s Hyde Park, the aural experience across the arena, and the sound impacts beyond the event, are a critical part of its overall success.

Our sound monitoring equipment and real-time reporting is deployed by event management company IMG on behalf of The Royal Parks, which holds strict environmental management standards for major events like the Winter Wonderland. With over 100 attractions, control of the sound field within the site to create a comfortable visitor experience that encourages footfall, and management of noise spill beyond the venue, are key reporting metrics for those environmental standards.

Our team deploys 26 sound level meters within the site and at strategic offsite locations for the seven-week duration of the event. Our sound level meters guide the configuration and control of all sound systems for the event. The event has many attractions, bars, and incidental areas, most of which operate sound systems. Our distributed monitoring system supports the delivery of a tightly managed sound environment for IMG and The Royal Parks. It means control is maintained over sound levels of simultaneous broadcast of seasonal music to all sound systems. Any unauthorised music is also identified and controlled. Live screens display comprehensive information on sound levels to help operators in each part of the event maintain the required levels of sound. This live data is also delivered to the event management team and to The Royal Parks to ensure compliance with its environmental noise management requirements.

With these measures in place, visitors can attend Winter Wonderland enjoying reasonable sound volumes, while any noise disturbance beyond the perimeter of the area is limited.?
