Th¨¦?tre de la Vieille Forge Reconstruction
In August 2017, a fire destroyed the Th¨¦?tre de la Vieille Forge in Petite-Vall¨¦e, a cultural hub for the Gasp¨¦ region and an iconic venue for the beloved Festival en chanson since 1983. Due to the solidarity of the community and support from all levels of government, the Village en Chanson organization was able to rebuild the theatre, just steps from the original site, overlooking the St. Lawrence River. From the initial call for tenders to the project¡¯s completion, we supported the client across civil, mechanical, structural, and electrical engineering disciplines.
Our teams in Rimouski and Sainte-Anne-des-Monts led the engineering efforts for the new building. It features a modular performance hall, a caf¨¦, a welcoming reception area, dedicated artist spaces, a small studio, facilities for community television, and an administrative wing. We paid special attention to sound engineering to provide optimal acoustics for all types of performances.
The project also came with a unique challenge. Located on a narrow point of land jutting into the sea, the site lacked proper water or sewage infrastructure. This required our team to find solutions that would work within a very limited space.
Staying true to its roots and Gaspesian identity, the new Th¨¦?tre de la Vieille Forge now offers artists and audiences a modern, functional, and sustainable venue while continuing to serve as a vibrant gathering place for the community.
